Bubbles is losing color
Today after I gave my hermit crab bubbles fresh food Bubbles came out of his/her shell ( not OUT of the shell just not hiding. ) I noticed that he/she was turning a really light color peach. Before Kelpcake passed away she/he started losing color to, and now Bubbles is losing color just like Kelp cake. What do I do? Is this lack of calcium? Please let me know ASAP.

Re: Bubbles is losing color
Hermit crabs need calcium for their exoskeletons. This can be sumplemented by feeding them dried river shrimp, cuddlebones, like the ones you give to birds. I know some people also give lobster exoskeleton to their crabs but I’m not sure where to get that. Dried river shrimp can be bought at most pet stores. Do know that most hermit crabs also lose color when they are about to molt and that is one of the signs. Has bubbles been filling up on water recently?HermitCrabCHICA wrote:Today after I gave my hermit crab bubbles fresh food Bubbles came out of his/her shell ( not OUT of the shell just not hiding. ) I noticed that he/she was turning a really light color peach. That doesnt mean Bubbles will not molt. Ive had crabs lose color but they always usually are preparing to molt. How much subtrate is in your tank?HermitCrabCHICA wrote:Bubbles hasn't touched any water at all.

I REALLY need to do a full tank clean and there is only one inch of EE. I just checked on bubbles, He is right by the freshwater bowl. This morning I saw him grooming himself with the alien legs.

Re: Bubbles is losing color
Thats definitely too little. You need at least six inches of subtrate in the tank so they can molt. That could be Bubble’s problem. Do you have a temperature and humidity gauge in the tank?HermitCrabCHICA wrote:I REALLY need to do a full tank clean and there is only one inch of EE. Let him dig and cover himself as much as possible.HermitCrabCHICA wrote:Bubbles is digging right by the edge of the tank! What do i do?

i picked him up and added some more substrate where he was digging it is enough ee now to ensure that he feels covered if he molts

Thats okay. Leave him alone and let him do what he needs to molt.HermitCrabCHICA wrote:Ok now he won't come out he is hiding in his shell.
