Crabby Personalities

Post by Coco_Hermies » Sun Aug 08, 2021 5:41 am

I have three hermit crabs, a large-ish one named Sheldon, a medium sized one named Hermes and a very small one named Coco.

Hermes is a party animal and isn’t shy at all but Sheldon is very skittish and quickly hides inside his shell any time I come near their enclosure. Coco is also a bit nervous but not as nervous as Sheldon. Sheldon tends to burrow and cover himself under the substrate most of the time but comes up to eat. Coco also buries herself but will come up for a feed and a wander. (Not sure if they’re actually male or female, totally just assuming here).

Will they ever be less afraid of me? I only brought them home a week ago so I understand if they need time to get to know me. I just love them and it’s sad to think they might see me as a predator

Maybe? It depends on time and personality. More outgoing crabs like Hermes will get used to you faster than shy crabs, who may recoil in fear for years.

They’re not super intelligent and their eyesight is only moderate at best so big moving things scare them easily.

My most shy crab is now my most friendly! Don't put anything past them.
Leonardo Dapinci, Clawdia, Coconut. Rest in peace, Samwise!
Aussiedoodle puppy, Watson <3 Super sweet, and super cute!
