Hey everyone! My hermit crab I got about a month ago seems sick, I suspect PPS. He is pale, discolored, extremely lethargic, and won't eat. He also seems to be having some clear liquid coming off around his head near the eyes. If may have also been that he got trapped in the water dish the other day for about 30 mins until I saw it and rescued him. Any suggestions besides just trying to encourage him to eat? I really am hoping it isn't too late but he seems like he is on his last leg.
Thanks in advance!

Be sure to keep optimal conditions and offer lots of protein and calcium. If you have any natural peanut butter (no hydrogenated oils, extra sugars) honey, or bee pollen, this may help give him a boost. Just curious, what is the temp in your tank? I believe I read somewhere on the boards that liquid coming from the crab could be a sign of overheating.

Hello! Thank you for the tips! The temp in the tank is set to 80°F, some times goes lower to 78°F. The tank has a UTH on the back but it doesn't keep the temp up. So I have a device that turns on a ceramic heat lamp when it gets lower in the tank. It turns of when it hits 80°F. Is this too hot for PPs? I will try the honey idea now. Thanks!CrabbyLover77 wrote:Be sure to keep optimal conditions and offer lots of protein and calcium. You're welcome! 80° is perfect, so no worries there. You can use a cut off qtip head and put the honey on the stick (some people leave the tip on, but I would think that would get the honey mixed up with the cotton). Then offer it to him that way. It may be easier than him trying to go into the dish himself. Good luck!
