Spider wood? Is this safe for hermies to eat and climb?
Hi guys!
So I researched safe wood for hermit crabs and for some reason I can’t find anything on “spider wood” I found it near the aquarium stuff for fish. Is this safe for hermit crabs to eat and climb? I thought they would enjoy climbing it.
Please see the attached pictures for reference and let me know if this is safe!

Spider wood is a type of driftwood, and combined with the fact it is used in aquariums, i would say it is safe for you crabs.

Agreed, it’s probably fine.

How big of a tank do you have?
Like said, I'm sure it's fine. I have oak branches in my setups from an old oak tree that decided to come crashing down in my yard some months back. My hermies spend lots of time climbing on them.

Im still convinced that spider wood is exactly the same as goldenvine wood sold in Aus. Regardless, I know multiple crabbers that have had spider wood in their tank, so its definitely safe to add.

I think they are the same, aren’t they? Does goldenvine come from Rhododendron roots?

Thanks guys!! I have a 40 gallon breeder sized tank! Thought it would be a fun addition to add. I feel a lot better knowing it’s safe!

I've seen the same, but the exact species is kept as a trade secret. I have been using rhododendron branches for almost two years now with my PPs, so I wouldn't be concerned in any case.JoeHermits wrote: ↑Tue Dec 21, 2021 8:36 pmI think they are the same, aren’t they?
