Should I make this a new post??

As ever, thank you for your crabby wisdom!
I'm not a salt specialist lol, but if that one is good for marine fish and invertebrates, I'd use it for my crabbies. ImageImage

IS IT LIKELY THAT 1 MOLTING CRAB WOULD ATTACK ANOTHER MOLTING CRAB WHILE UNDERGROUND??

I can hear chittering and there’s definite surface movement with legs and claws showing.

Is this a thing??

It can be a thing, if one crab comes across another when they are molting and vulnerable.
Are they both still visible from the surface? Like not totally underground?
I would probably try to separate them, to avoid fighting.

Ok, so when I looked, Pink (the original molter) was topside and ‘The Aggressor’ was in her original molting spot (which I think explains the chittering & moving around.) I checked around in the substrate for anyone’s exoskeleton but didn’t find any. She did look a bit whiter to me, but she hides a lot so I never really got a look before. I’ve moved her to the new tank and she went straight into the nearest hide. I’ll keep an eye on her as the ‘newbie’ (even though they all lived together originally).

The Aggressor is finally all alone in the Krabuze tank. He’s under the water dish but on his back? And has dug down to the plastic base of the tank. It seems he’s still in his original shell.

I’m thinking of adding substrate to areas around him to see if he comes out and re-buries for molting. I’m getting 8 more shells tomorrow so he can have some of his own to ponder & the rest can go to the new tank.

I’m wary of letting him in to the new tank until he at least changes his shell, so it’s not a fight he can pick back up when he meets up with the others.

Hermit crabs are wild! 🤘

If you want a discussion and/or answer, re: Redcoral Salt, I'd suggest making a separate posting in the "Water" board. But that's just my 2 cents, for what it's worth.

Hey I don't know if anyone mentioned this yet but you can use tap water as long as it's dechlorinated, def probably cheaper than springwater.

My suggestions for places to check for cheap crab supplies are craigslist and FB marketplace. You should check FB for local crab groups that might be able to help with supplies. Finally, see if you have a Buy Nothing FB group in your area. Might be worth checking some craft stores for shells as well.
