Hello,
I'm planning on moving from California to Texas in the near future and was wondering if anyone has had any experience traveling interstate with their crabs. I have 3 purple pinchers.
I'm debating on figuring a way to get them transported by plane (a 4 hour flight) but I'm scared of mishandling and not sure if they're allowed as a carry-on.
The other option is making a 3 day road trip. Though I'm not sure how to go about regulating the temp. Not sure if traveling the summer or the winter would be best.
Any advice would be much appreciated! Especially if you have traveled interstate yourself with your crabs.
Thank you!

Re: Traveling with Crabs
I have traveled interstate with mine, although for me it was only two days (twenty hour drive total).
I packed mine individually in Tupperware filled with damp sphagnum moss and had them tucked in on the floor of my car. For temperature regulation I mostly just fiddled with the climate controls once in a while so it didn’t get too hot or cold. When I stopped I brought them into the motel with me.
I personally recommend spring or fall so you don’t need to blast the heat or A/C but of course you may not have the luxury of choosing when you move.

Re: Traveling with Crabs
I’ve never traveled with crabs, but I did transport my pet geckos across states once. I used a similar setup with secure, ventilated containers and a portable heat pad to maintain the temperature. Just like Joe mentioned, it’s easier to regulate the climate in spring or fall. Also, during stops, I kept them indoors to avoid temperature swings. The road trip option seems manageable if you’re prepared for frequent stops and can stay in consistent conditions for your crabs.
