You'll want to use a thermostat to control the temp. I'll get you think for the one I use.

I use Ultratherm uths. You can get them at reptilebasics.com or Beanfarm.com. Ultratherm or Flukers brand work the best.
I have a 55 gal and a 40 gal breeder. For the breeder I use the 11x35" mat:

But won't it be too hot for them? Especially if I keep it on 24/7?

I already have a thermo and hygrometer, I'm just worried. Sorry, new crabbing anxiety (if that's a thing) Image

A thermostat is different than a thermometer. A thermostat will regulate the temp of the mat. You can set it at say, 80, and the mat will shut off when it hits that temp

Yw! For any mat that doesn't have padding in it already, like Ultratherms, you'll want to insulate them. You can wrap cardboard in aluminum foil, shiny side out, and duct tape that over the mat. I was lazy, and my pet room doesn't get that cold, so I just duct taped aluminum foil, shiny side toward the tank, over the mat.

My temp is at like 75-77 right now, so I think I'm fine unless it drops.

That's def a good temp. You don't need to use the uth now then if you don't want to. Insulating the uth when possible just helps it not work as hard. It helps direct the heat inward toward the tank, as opposed to the heat radiating outward too. ImageJust never insulate a uth that is already padded. That can be a fire hazard.

HCA recommends at least 3-5 shells per crabby

I feel quite happy with my current set up!
Tomorrow I'm probably gonna go to Hobby Lobby and get more shells and my Instant Ocean is on the way, I've got substrate about 3x my largest crab size, two coconut huts, two water trays, and some climbing stuff! I've got a hygrometer and a thermometer! The only thing I'm a little worried about is if my tank is too crowded. Image

That looks good! I don't think it's too crowded. The more hiding spots the better anyway. They'll feel safer and come out in the open more.
For the shells, you'll need to measure the opening of the shell he's currently in lengthwise) to see what sizes he can use . Let's say it's 1". I like to offer shells a little bit smaller, 7/8", the same size 1", and a little bit bigger, 1 1/8".
