Me and Kermit

Post by Guest » Tue Jul 11, 2006 7:30 pm

Hello, just thought I would introduce myself and my Krabie to the site.

I'm Chelsea and am the very new to the hermit Crab world. very. So, I'm probably gonna be popping about the site asking for help and what not about my Hermit crab names Kermit.

King Kermit the Hermit Krab. So, if you see my poking around for help I really appreciate the replies. :)

hey chelsea, welcome to HCA! I like kermit, it is a good name for a hermie. if you have any, we'd love to see some pics!

despite their names, hermies are really social critters and live in groups of up to 100 in the wild. so kermit would probably love to have a hermie friend....and really, its the perfect "excuse" for you to get another crab  .

lol, oh yes, believe me. If I go to the beach this summer, I will probably be coming home with another Hermit. lol :) They are too much fun. (although I should get over the fear of holding it, lol)

are you afraid of dropping the crab, or afraid kermit will pinch? if its the second, hold him on your palm with the palm stretched flat, this way he can't grab loose skin to pinch.

also, you could try putting a paper towell between you two before you get used to him.

I'm so much as scared of him doing anything, but, he reminds me of a bug. Me and bugs...have a mutual dissagreement, lol.

I'm gonna try the paper towel idea, that actually sounds really awesome. :)

I used to have a crab that gave me a very hard, long pinch when I first got her, and I used a paper towell when holding her for a month or so until I felt at ease. be assured, though, most crabs do not pinch unless they feel threatened.

Hi and Welcome to the HCA! I love the name Kermit! :D

Annopia's suggestion about the towel sounds like a good idea. I'm going to try it with one of my crabs who likes to pinch! :)

Welcome.

I remember the first time Edward pinched me. I think it was because I cupped my hand. So keep it flat and there should be no problems.

Hey and Welcome!

I know what you're saying with the bug thing. My daughter got our first hermie for her 7th birthday, and when she opened the Petco box she saw the legs and thought it was a spider! She dropped the box (thankfully she was sitting on the floor) and jumped straight into my neighbor's lap screaming. It was quite funny, but she's gotten much more calm about the hermies now. She's almost to the point that she wants to hold one, but we're taking that verrrrrry slowly. I don't want her to freak out and hurt the crabbies. I've never had trouble with any pinching or anything, but when they climb up my sleeves and into my hair and I'm the only one who will touch them then we have issues. :D I think I'll try the paper towel idea with her- that's a really good thought!

Enjoy your crab and ask anything you need- you're in the best place for great info!

Hi,
Welcome, I'm fairly new also, about 3 weeks with our hermies. Over the last 3 weeks, almost month, we gottin 6 altogether. We CAN'T get anymore, no matter what, no more room. They are all either micro's or teeny (under an 1 opening of shell). 5 E's and 1 PP. Flame, Geoffory, Spike, Sparty, Tiny and BB. I love the name of your hermie. So creative. Have fun, I know we are.

Aw, thanks for the welcoming :)

These stories are great...and really entertaining, lol. Haha, you guys are awesome.

And Rwhite, thanks for the compliment on the name...kind of ironic how you have a frog for your icon. ...only sayin'...
