thank you. you were nice about that. Yeah, i no. Like my neighbor has a hermit crab like.. village at school. lol and i was thinking of giving it to her. But then i talked to my mom about it, and she says that we will get another crab. and soo.. i dont no. I think my mom likes them, but i dont know where to get another crab from because the ones at the pet store are like dime size, and i would have to get like a bunch of shells for them to move up in. So im gonna try and contact the people i got these from, and get one from them. But, i dont know. Ill talk to my dad about a guage thingy... will the people at the pet store know what im talking about when i say a hermit crab guage? because i dont have a clue what this looks like. I need to get a new heater too, do you know how much all this cost?
thanks.
thanks.
If you ask about humidity and temperature gauges, the pet store people should know what you're talking about.
I hope you can get some soon!
I don't really know about a heater, a UTH for a 10 gallon tank might cost around $13 or so.
If you can go to a craft store, you might be able to find lots of little craft shells for very cheap.
You could use these if you can't contact the people you got your other crabs from, and need to buy little shells.
Hope this helps you!

Sorry Nacho. I didn't mean to sound crabby...for lack of a better term. I am sure you care about your crab(s). Yes, some of us are super sensitive about our crabs and the care that they receive but that's just part of being a responsible person in charge of the care of another living thing. We don't expect you to drop to your knees in grief and scream out to God or anything....just get some guages!
Please don't let little outbursts like the ones I'm prone to having turn you off from the group-

I didn't want you to take my post the wrong way either, I did not mean to sound accusitory, so please forgive me if I did.
I just thought I was being logical. Some people don't get as emotionally invested in their crabs as some others do, it doesn't make you a bad person. I just meant to say if you are not emotionally invested in them that they could be better cared for by someone else.
I very rarley cry over deaths anymore, although there have been times not so long ago that I have. I still always feel badly when I lose one.
A crab is a pet, just like a cat, and although I would probably be more upset to lose my cat, both my cats and my crabs deserve the best care I can give them. If you love them and enjoy them, by all means keep them, but there are certain things they require. We're really not a bad group....I would even send you gages if you had a PO box, but you should never give personal info over the web, I just want you to know we all really want to be helpful.

okay, i no i need guages. but.. gosh, ive already spent like $45 on them, and for a person with out a job, thats alot. So... im gonna talk to my mom, or my boyfriend. and see what can happen.
And.. (going off on another subject) I dont want you guys to think im like not taking care of my crabs. I no im repeating my self, but i do take really good care for them. I might not be emotionally caring for them, but im not gonna make them suffer. thats mean. So i do the best i can.
so any way, back to guages.. How come the people who i bought the crab from didnt say anything about guages? weird.

Because if the people we got our crabs from really told the customer the full truth about the cost and time comitment needed to properly care for and maintain them, almost no one would buy them. (They are considered by some to be disposable or throw away pets.) We have ALL been led to believe from the beginning that all they need is a critter carrier, some pebbles, sand or dirt, water, even tap water, and pellet food would be all they ever needed. But by the same token, they're kinda countining on you eventually finding out the truth, in which case they get more money out of ya 'cause depending on where you are, that very same deceptive retailer could become your only/main source for crab supplies later on!! It STINKS, doesn't it?
It's not fair to us and especially not fair to the crabs. Some of us can't afford to do it all at once so bit by bit is just as good. It has to be. You just need to prioritize which bits get purchased first. And Dear, (listen to me, calling you Dear after I've been razzin' ya for the last 2 days-BTW, I am sorry-
) the guages and water dechlorinator have got to be the very first 2 things. With those 2 things and conditions adjusted accordingly, they should be fairly tolerant of everything else until you can do whatever else needs to be done. They're not cheap. They themselves are inexpensive but as you see, if whoever sold us our crabs also said, "And you'll need to spend about $125.00 right off the bat to house and keep 2 or more crabs happy and healthy" , I guarantee that a large number of people here wouldn't have crabs! I wouldn't. I was totally duped. But I have since fallen madly in love and wouldn't change the course events leading me to them, not for anything. Alright, I've been geekin' out here at the site all night and I'm beat. PM me later if ya want and we can rant together about crab cost inefficiencies. Have a good day-

The chlorine in our tap water can give crabs a chemical burn on their gills just like with fish. If you have well water and not city water it may be okay. A bottle of declorinater can be used to take the chlorine out. A bottle lasts FOREVER since it's usually a drop per gallon.
Petstores get their info from suppliers, and suppliers have no interest in keeping crabs alive with their petowners. So even if a petstore wanted to do the right thing they consider suppliers the experts and not their customers, so often even if we tell them what we've learned from keeping many crabs for a long time they don't believe us. Sometimes I get really mad because the wrong information is given out and people believe it and it ends up with dead crabs and frustrated crab owners.
