safe for my recent rescue?

Post by I'veGotCrabs » Sat Sep 22, 2007 8:08 pm

I'm not really sure where to post this, but i recently saved a little crabbie who only has one leg and his little pincher left. He's been in isolation for three weeks now because i'm afraid to put him into the big tank with the other crabbies. I hate leaving him in there alone though. Basically my question is would it be safe to put him in the tank with the other guys? They're all around the same size, give or take, but i don't want anything to happen to my little 2 limbed guy. Not to mention i don't know if he'd be able to get to the food and water in the big tank...he doesn't exactly get around well. thanks to anyone who can offer insight :)

no, i would definatly not put him in the tank with the healthy crabs, he is in a very very disabled state and it would be much better to wait until he molts. he is very vulnerable to attacks and couldn't defend himself, plus his ability to dig down to molt is limited and he might pull a surface molt. i had a rescue with 1.5 walking legs and no pinchers, and i kept him iso until he regrew the legs.

good job on the save!

Your fears

He's better off by himself and healing up. He'll be okay by himself for a while. When he's molted and has more limbs it will be safer for him in the other tank. Right now, he needs to have no competition for food or water and rest so he can save his energy to molt...Hopefully he'll do that and grow back some limbs and such soon. It may take a couple of molts but if he's strong enough, he'll do just fine.
