Tigerlilies?
I have lots of tigerlilies growing around outside my house (wild, I believe), and I was wondering if it would be okay to feed the flower, leaves, stems, etc to my babies. I didn't see it listed in either of JMT's sticky topics so I wasn't sure

Tiger Lilies are "asiatic lilies" I believe and are toxic.
Only the TRUE Day Lilies are ok for hermit crabs to eat.
(The day lily usually has one bloom on a stem and long leafs at the base of the plant rather than multiple flowers on a stalk with short leafs all the way up the plant stem like the tiger/asiatic lily)

i've always called the bloody things tiger lilies until i bought this old book about foraging for wild foods, which listed them as day lilies. according to this site:
http://gardening.about.com/od/perennial ... lilies.htm
daylilies have a single stem coming from a clump of leaves, while tigerlilies have a stem with leaves growing up it in spirals or whorls. also, daylilies bloom for a much shorter time - usually just a day - whereas tigerlilies will bloom for a week.
i've actually grown up eating day lilies, they're pretty good in a stir fry. i picked a bloom for my crabs and they seemed to enjoy them, though not quite to the extent that they enjoyed the rose petals i put in a few weeks before.
you can also dry them for later use.
