They are gorgeous! As far as space, I'll tell you from my own experience with my straws. I had 4 large, 1 medium, and 1 small (all straws) in a 29. It was never intended to be long term, but ended up being longer than I planned. I had 10" of substrate for them, although I did find when I clean it out that the bottom 3" was soaked with some standing water. It was hard to give even the larges the room they needed to climb, and move around with large enough water dishes and places to hide. Having a mess lid was actually a benefit because all the straws seemed to love climbing on the lid, and still do in my 90 gallon.

I'd iso the straws in the 29 initially to be sure they don't have mites and to give them an opportunity to eat well. They may did down, so "initially" could end up being a couple months.

Here's a thought, what about moving the 6 Es (going by the count in your signature) to the 29 and keeping the PPs and Straws in the 75?

I also agree with the advice others have given that they would be much happier with more space and also much more pleasing to watch in the larger tank. : )

My husbands friend lives in TN but travels to the Atlanta Zoo to build habitats for reptiles and other critters. Once a few years back, he showed interest in a litter of 'Short Tailed Opossums' (indigenous to Brazil) and the Zoo allowed him to 'adopt' the litter. Obviously he is super qualified because he specializes in animal care. He gave my daughter 'pick of the litter' on her 5th birthday and 'Jack' as he came to be called, is still (4 years later) a member of the family. He has an enclosure that our friend built for her as part of her bday present. Jack makes regular appearances at her Elementary school and she is a super hero with the kids

Fast Forward to today: I am known around town as 'the hermit crab lady' (enduring although I'm only 30, and still not used to being called 'Lady", doesn't seem age appropriate LOL!) Needless to say, our friend knew I wanted Straws and was able to bring these two back from the Atlanta Zoo for me. They were getting "too big" for their enclosure :roll: So they came to be with me, where size DOESN'T matter YAY!

...and they are the most beautiful things I have ever seen More importantly, they seem to be SUPER used to people gawking at them because they just compete in starting contests with me

WOAH those guys are huge. I don't think I've seen straws that large before! You are so lucky! (And on the possum, too! Gotta know someone who knows someone to get the cool stuff. )

And yeah, I have to agree with everyone else about them needing more space. Carol of Crabworks kept hers in a 20 gallon (and I believe upgraded to a 40 near the end), but hers were also allowed out to roam the house for around four hours a night, so they got their daily exercise that way. For a permanent home they need space to work up a good head of steam and walk off any energy they have.

I think the plan is.... I'll keep the straws in the 29 for a while. Neither has shown any interest in digging and both do seem well feed
I will probably add the E's to the 29 and the Straws to the 75. They really do need the pools. That is after all why I built pools but I never imagined in a million years I'd have JUMBOS! My husband keeps calling them 'the Lobsters' :roll:

Wow- you are so lucky! It would be interesting to talk with the zoo keepers and see how they kept them there. Any idea how long they were at the zoo? Or how old they are?

@hermitmommy it was his wife that called me, I picked them up from her because he was out of town on work. I haven't gotten a chance to ask him about them, but I'm anxious to know they story on them. All I know is they were "getting too big for their enclosure".

Holy moly, those guys are seriously massive. I will never gawk at Nudge and call him large again.
They look so healthy! It's amazing they could live long enough in captivity to get to that size, since I've heard about people having issues keeping straws alive. So good on the zoo! (unless of course, they only just got them and they were already huge) I can't even begin to imagine how old they are, since I think they just stop growing at one point and keep aging.
I know you already decided, but I agree with everyone, my medium straw loves his saltwater pool, I even had to get him a bigger one because he used it so much. I'm holding up the sizing chart next to my 30g tank and if B was their size, the pool he would want would be half the size of the tank
Please keep posting pictures of these guys! I can't get enough of them!
