Wow thats so amazing, I dint know that they bred in captivity ?
Woohooo!! Two females with eggs!! Update page 3! Have eyes!
That have certainly been known to mate and produce eggs in captivity, but successfully raising the babies is another story. It will certainly be exciting to see what happens over the next little while. I know I'll be keeping my eye on this thread! It will be a whole new world for Hermies if they can be raised in captivity!

The eggs are turning grey!!! Or in Cat's case, sort of blue.
The gravid crabs' behavior has changed, too. They stay on the ground near the water all day. Should be a few days for Cat looks like and maybe a week for Big Mamma.
Cat's Eggs:

Big Mamma's:

Notice the iridescent spots?! So NEAT! Haven't seen that before.
They were not very cooperative, and I didn't want to stress them, so the pics aren't spectacular.

Aren't spectacular my unshelled rear!!! They are FANTASTIC! I still can't believe you've got TWO to cooperate. Remember, I can't even get a good look at my girls, let alone snap photos.
Look at those eyes!
Can you see the babies moving at all in their eggs?
I'm expecting mine to lay between July 20 and July 24. Going through old posts on the HCA of people finding babies in the water dish, and also through the dates of the papers you sent me, I matched those up with the moon cycle thanks to NASA's extensive 6,000 year moon phase catalogue. In 95% of cases the eggs are laid on first 4 days following the New Moon. New Moon is July 19 this month.

Re: Woohooo!! Two females with eggs!! Update P.5! Eggs are G
I'm so mad at my husband. He convinced me we wouldn't need a 5 gallon bucket or tube for mixing SW last night when we were at the store. Grrr. Ever filled up a 20 gallon tank carrying two liters at a time between the kitchen and living room?! Yikes! I don't think I'll need to work out on the elliptical machine today. I was sweating like crazy. I'm all shaky still.
Well, I got what I could and put them in the 20, I see many live ones, but many dead ones, too. And after Cat was done in the SW, she emptied a whole bunch of eggs on the substrate. I took some and tried to photograph them super macro style. Maybe I'll save a few and sneak into a lab on campus to use a microscope.
I got video of cat releasing her eggs (neat, but the glass was so dirty), and videos of babies swimming around. I'll try to go through them and put them up. I've had a rough couple weeks, and this is not making me any less stressed! lol! It makes me want to give up.
Wodesorel, for both our sakes, I hope you are much more prepared than I am!
I'm glad I have another chance with big mamma. Gotta watch her close.

Try to put some of those substrate eggs in water! Remember that SojMad hatched hers from eggs abandoned in the moss pit and around the tank.
