My Straw (Perlatus) baby thread
Re: My Straw (Perlatus) baby thread. Update: Megalopa stage
Thanks!
He's been in a shell all night now (5 hours is a full night for me lol ) but my transition tank is only at 79 degrees f. So I need to go buy a new heat mat this morning to try to get the heat up much higher. I need it at least 86f to be close to the jars.
It's ok to leave him in the jar right? It's no different then the transition tank pool for a bit?

Not crazy about 4 of the 5 first ingredients being soy flour, wheat flour, etc., but the main thing that stands out to me is the listing of "fish meal", unless you can verify either that the fish meal wasn't imported or get a guarantee from the company that it doesn't contain ethoxyquin, then it almost definitely does. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable can chime in.
Also, ended up losing my almost completed reply re: the filtration method I talked about last night and was too tired to redo it that late but am re-typing it right now

Thanks Eugooglizer, and I might add Zoolander was one of the best comedies, ever.

If you're looking at a commercial algae wafter, Shirakura is a great option. Repashy's Shrimp Souffle is really solid as well, and both are ethoxyquin and BHT free. I definitely wouldn't trust those ingredients based on the -meal thing.

Instead of algae wafers, I'd try to find some actual algae powder or spirinula you can usually find them in bulk at health food stores.
And I sent you a little algae powder pack >.> now it's up to canadapost

Re: My Straw (Perlatus) baby thread. Update: Megalopa stage
I've had bad luck with algae wafers no matter who makes them, and I've tried every brand that the local pet shops carry. They tend to foul up the water really fast and I've reason to believe that they introduced ick and other bacterial infections to my tank before. :/ I still feed them sparingly in my community tanks since my fish like them, but I'm always wary about it.
I've even had bad luck with Repashy's Soilent Green - no matter how thick I mixed it, it dissolved as soon as it hit water and got messy quick.

ah ok thanks.
And yes rocky, it's up there with my top 5 movies of all time. Along with Dumb and Dumber, John Carpenter's The Thing and Tropic Thunder.
He's changed shells a few times but he's been in shells all night, but I can't seem to get my tank up hot enough

Re: My Straw (Perlatus) baby thread. Update: Megalopa stage
So I have a question about water viability. If I have water in 5 gallon jugs, or in jars waiting to be switched into, how long are they good for? Like does the water start to go bad after a certain amount of time?
Re: My Straw (Perlatus) baby thread. Update: Megalopa stage
How long are you talking about? As long as it's not forming algae, I'd consider it fine.kuza wrote:So I have a question about water viability.
