I sat and read this entire 31+ page thread today. I have to say, Nat, it has been great to see your batch of captive breds grow from little specs in the water to walking around and molting. Kudos for such a tremendous feat. As well to you Curls, and Kuza. I've wanted to breed mine since I got into crabs 3 or 4, maybe 5 years ago? Can't remember. Any chance of an update, Nat?

Kuza, how are your straws coming along. I would so love to not only get straws and be able to keep them alive for their natural life span but to breed them. Envious is not a strong enough word. :)

Both attempts ended at shell stage. One of the mommas and the 1 pappa are molting right now.

Great Idea!! I will look into something that has compartments so I can get them to cooperate, I never handle them unless its necessary & they are super pinchy! It would be cool to get a shot with the male & female from this seasons batch too!!

Last time I saw these guys was when you just put them into the tank!!! They are so big now! Well, compared to what they where!lol I just cannot believe how far along they have come! One question though. Do you notice any difference in attitude or behavior compared to your other wild caught crabs? Do the lil ones have the same mannerisms and such? Are they just as skittish of you as the adults? Being that you raised them, I know you had to have some degree of interaction at a small age, so I would think they wouldn't be so tempted to retreat when they see you in the tank...

There is no difference in behaviour, they still have all of the same instincts ie run for cover when there is a shadow or sudden movement. I do not interact with them apart from a quick photo or cleaning waters & foods. When I have attempted to sex them they have proven to be very pinchy & quickly abandoned their shell to streak away leaving me completely freaking out. I now sex them via climbing mesh across the front of the tank so I can get a good look without causing harm by stressing them.
