The pink sand has got to go, sweetie. If you use that kind, you're looking at spending a few hundred dollars to fill a tote my size to the depth you need and even then, it's still unsafe. What size is the tote anyway?

Its shoe box size my crab is out right now looking around i put a shell in there and salt water in there
Re: TOTE TUTORIAL~ 8D
Ah, then that's still too small. You're gonna want totes that are basically the same size as glass tanks. You can only get like 2 inches of substrate in a tote that small. Mine are over 100 quarts each and I'd still use them if I could find totes that were 4 feet long and clear.

Re: TOTE TUTORIAL~ 8D
I have one hermit crab right now and theres alot of room for it to move around
Re: TOTE TUTORIAL~ 8D
There may be room to move but there is no room to molt and that is what is vital for its health. The main things necessary for a hermit crab are high heat, high humidity, appropriate fresh and salt water, a healthy diet, and deep substrate made from play sand, ecoearth or both. Skimp on any of those and nobody's crabs are gonna live as long as they should.

Is this salt Instant Ocean or a similar brand? What is your dechlorinator? And what things are you feeding?

Re: TOTE TUTORIAL~ 8D
FMR land hermit crab treat it has papaya coconut pineapple sea salt banana chips apples mangos rolled oats and wheat germ all living things saltwater conditioner it helps neutralize chlorine chloramines and ammonia contains calcium to aid in molting and support exoskeleton strength
Re: TOTE TUTORIAL~ 8D
The All Living Things conditioner is absolutely useless for crabbing. FMR's treat is okay but it's not a complete diet. Take a look at our caresheets if you haven't already. They explain much more than I could in one post.

Brittanybaby22: what are the dimentions of your tote??
Also for foods if you have raw meats or fish at home you could take little pieces and warm it up in the microwave and feed that to your crab. Just make sure it has NO SALT OR SAUCES on it. It must be completely raw before you cook it. You could also feed most raw veggies and fruits to your crab too

Re: TOTE TUTORIAL~ 8D
I actually did create my crabitat with a tote. 16 gallons clear and I love how I can just see in without disturbing them. I'm working on a homemade climbing wall but just need the suction cups to hold it up . I added a log (designed for fish) and a branch for them to climb on (made of honey and alfalfa- totally safe did the research)
