Hygrotherm questions

Post by nanasue » Fri Dec 05, 2014 2:12 pm

My son is still gathering the things he needs to build his 55 gal crabitat. He's been looking for a humidistat/hygrostat, and found a "HygroTherm™ Humidity & Temperature Controller". Has anyone had any experience with this product? While searching, I found another hygrotherm product, but it didn't exactly have a very good review. Seems that it won't turn on or shut off for quite a range of humidity and temp... My son is concerned about these products, and would like some informed opinion please.

A lot of crabbers have had success with this item. You can get it at Wal-mart for around $9.

This one you can get on ebay or amazon, they cost roughly $20.

This is exactly what I have and I LOVE it!! It gives me so much freedom now!!

It did take a bit of tweaking in the beginning, getting used to it and finding the perfect combination and it's true it has a bit of a "range" but it's still within acceptable variables. I've never tried anything else other than manual and now that I have this I would never live without it!!

I believe Mom23 uses a Hygrotherm too. I'm not sure if I've seen her post recently though...

I have that gauge. It just died on me yesterday. It is my second one. I dropped the first in my sw pool so that was my fault lol. But this one just died for no reason. I bought the hygrotherm as well and it was DOA with a button that didn't work. Maybe I am just hard on gauges.

I use the HygroTherm in all 3 of my tanks (56, 60, and 150) and I've had no issues or malfunctions in their year of use. I have an ultratherm and a reptifogger hooked up to each one. It's been a life saver for me because I have a very hectic life and I don't have to worry about the tank's heat and humidity. I'm not saying they can't or won't malfunction as some people have mentioned, that can happen with any product. I check them daily many times just as I'm walking by or something so *if* a problem were to arise I'd be in top of it. Personally I don't know how people do this without them. :) It makes my life so much easier.

I have been fortunate in that despite how cold it might be in my area that my set up stays at 81/81 without a humidifier or heat lamp. I never thought I would see the day. I set things up just right using my custom glass lids and 2 ultratherms covering the entire back of my 125.
