Pool submerging question...

I catch my E Buzz in the pools all the time since installing the bubblers. Too funny. Last night I heard noise from the Crabitat room and thought one of the crabs must have escaped. I crept in there and discovered a soaking wet Buzz at the very top of the tubing scratching against the lid. Thankfully, there is no where to escape there as I ran the tubing through holes just large enough for the tubes. (I figured they'd climb the tubing.) I also found sand all over both tubes.

I have a PP who submerged last night. I just set up my new tank and have two 2.5 gallon pools with a ladder made out of egg crate and plastic canvas to get out (will add more fun things to the pools later). I have a filter and a heater in both pools as well. I just moved some more of my crabs to the new tank last night, and found one in the salt water pool shortly after. I wasn't expecting any of my crabs (all PPs) to take an interest in such deep pools that fast. He was crawling around underwater for awhile, then just sat in the corner near the ladder. He was in there for a couple hours, and before I went to bed I noticed he was hanging part way out of his shell. I just assumed he was stretched out and soaking, enjoying the warm water so I left him. He was right beside the ladder, so he shouldn't have had any problems figuring a way out. This morning, he was still in there in the same position. When I get close to him he will pull back in his shell. I was heading to work and didn't want to worry about him so I removed him from the pool, and placed him on the ramp at the top of the ladder. If he chose to go back in, i'd take it as a sign he was okay and just enjoyed the water. He crawled along the rim of the pool, dipping his claws in then hanging off the side before pulling himself back out and crawling away.

Is it normal for crabs to hang part way out of their shell when soaking in the pools? He seems otherwise fine and moving normally.

Seems normal to me. My PPs usually do quick dips in the water but I have seen straws and E's stretch out their shells like you are describing for hours at a time.

That's great to hear, thanks! It was fun to watch him enjoying the new pool. He is the only one in that's gone in there so far, and only the one time.

Draco has never been a fan of swimming, I suspect it's from me bathing him years back that left a bad impression.
But never the less, I really want to do big pools and monitor the levels to see if I can change his mind. Kelly, seeing your XL's and jumbos swimming gives me hope!

I caught Poseidon in the fw a few nights back just having a good 'ol time. Lol I didn't realize that crabs could love water like these do. My smaller ones I haven't caught swimming. I wish I could see a crabby pool party.

My guys love the water especially the salt water. This was just earlier. Like five of them by the water and one on a bubbler in the water

You probably just haven't seen them soaking. I have only seen my crabs soak 2 times.
