Haha good, we miss you! You have a valid excuse though.

Sooo last night I had a mystery crab up. Turns out it's Mario - the crab that has been up a while that I thought was Mario is actually Yoshi. Oops. That's fine, though, because I was a little worried about Yoshi. I got him for free at Petsmart when I got Mario, because he was missing a leg. He regrew it and seems healthy.

Most of my crabs have been accounted for fairly recently, except for Drogo. I haven't seen him since early November and I'm a little concerned. I have a couple others that I've seen a little more recently, but I tend to worry. Nothing I can do, but..meh.

4 crabs switched shells last night and now I'm playing "Who's who?". I am fairly certain about 3/4 and wondering if one of my molters came up. It's also hilarious to me when the tiny crabs move into larger shells and tilt over on their bums and end up waving until they flip back over.

I've posted before about the separate adventures of King Felix and wimpy Big Enzo but here's one that illustrates the pecking order beautifully.

The resin tree was recently added back into the tank and is always sporting one or two crabs. Big Enzo was making his way down the tree while the infamous Felix was watching from atop the cholla across the way. As Big Enzo neared the bottom, Felix made his way off the cholla, closing in on the base of the tree. Big Enzo was just touching down when Felix charged him, causing the big guy to flip over. Luckily, I could see what was going to happen and had time to grab the camera to catch the action. When Big Enzo flipped, I could hardly hold the camera, I was laughing so hard :hlol: !

Just got my two new crabs a few days ago- Scrumples and George. Scrumples is a bit bigger than George and immediately dug under the substrate when I put her in the tank. George on the other hand has been crazy, crawling up the plastic plants, crawling the side of the tank, digging up Scrumples, ect. Its pretty cool to me how opposite they are, even when I brought them home they were in a small plastic container and George was running around trying to get the lid off while Scrumples just stayed in her shell.
I was leaving this morning and went to the tank (its in my room) and said "okay bye babies" and George popped his head out, and I said "I love you" and he came over and put his antennas on the glass. I thought that was super sweet.

Ive put strawberry, green bean, edamame, carrot, apple, commecial crab food, and walnuts in for them these past couple days and the only thing they ever eat is the walnuts! I also found George sleeping in the food bowl two days in a row. Image

I gotta say, I love the name Scrumples.

They may just be eating tiny amounts and you're just not noticing. Some are picky and you have to experiment to find what they like. I would recommend you ditch the commercial food. It's usually full of chemicals and preservatives and other nasties. George sounds like a couple of my crabs that basically live in the food dish..They're a bunch of fatties ;)

Yeah my boyfriend named Scrumples haha. Its a pretty cute name.
Im worried they wont get enough protein without the commercial food. Been a vegan my whole life and I have no idea how to prepare any meat for them- and don't know even what to buy, can you buy small amounts of meat or something for them??

You can give them freeze dried shrimp, bloodworms, etc. some of which are sold at pet stores or online. Most crabs won't turn down shrimp ;) There are also a few stores that cater exclusively to hermit crabs - http://www.hermitcrabpatch.com/ is one that quite a few of us use; they sell blends of dehydrated foods and some small containers of freeze dried shrimp, krill, plankton, and so on. There's a huge variety to pick from!

Or, you can go to the grocery store at the meat counter and get small quantities of beef or chicken or seafood. You can freeze it and thaw as needed - cooked or raw is fine. If you're squeamish about messing with meat, though, dehydrated/freeze dried may be the way to go!

Poor drax. He took of his favorite fusi shell to try on a different one, and pinkie took it for herself! Now Drax is switching every couple of hours to find a new one. We only have like 15 or so in the proper size and shape but he is not liking any of them!!! Looks like I need to get some more fusi shells.

The only crab I have ever had wear a fusi wasn't very bright. He couldn't figure out how to dig down wearing it lol he couldn't fit in the hides either. Watching him trying to dig and fit made me sad.i was still trying to figure out the whole shell thing and was new at crabbing. As soon as I got correctly sized turbos in he was out of it and it was out of the tank.

Got to see a shell change last night. I woke up to get a glass of water and noticed Scrumples was awake, so i watched her for a bit and she suddenly jumped into a new shell! Im very excited for her.

Well guys after it's been all quiet on the western front, I've had a very exciting night!

First I go over to mist the iso and my little adoptee Wilson finally came up after 6 weeks! He's simply awesome ImageImage
Then I look over at the big tank and see a small green shell I haven't seen in a few weeks. Took her out and validated it was my tiny girl Thumbelina. Now I know I sound like an overly proud mama here but I AM SO PROUD OF THIS LITTLE FIGHTER! Since October when I brought home my tiny little crab with a missing leg, she has molted 3 times and her leg is now COMPLETELY NORMAL ImageImage️ this was after her first molt with her tiny stylish red leg lol Image
Second molt. Leg turned orange and beefed up a bit. Image
And now with her newly normal leg! Image

And now lastly. I saw something laying in the sand in the crab hut. I panicked. I thought it was a leg laying in the sand but it turns out someone else is up and in a fox strip she'll (I think that's what it is haha).I'm 95% sure it's Guppy since he's the only one who constantly changes into different shells plus he's always been super shy which this crab was. But holy cow if it's him he definitely grew! Of course I sat there for 10 minutes trying to wait him out for a picture and this was all I got but oh well lol. Image little stinker is just so shy and uncooperative!

As you can probably tell, I'm in crab heaven right now Image

Image this is lucky, my oldest crab. He's so cute, checking out a shell that's way to small :D

ImageThis is big boy, I've never seen him come out before. But he has moved when I'm not looking!

I just saw this! Yeah Drax had a successful molt in that shell! He has outgrown it now though, I think he likes the more roomy turbos.
