I have one of those shells my hermit crabs won't touch it.

They've always used these type of shells even though I have other types in the tank. After 2 moults they just go for these same type shells. I found they will change shells then go under to moult. Very cute!
I find some smaller PPs like those shells. Larger ones tend to go more for turbos but there are exceptions.
My Mallorn was in a very large murex when I got him but he had switched to a jade turbo pretty quickly and never went back. I don't think I've had any other larger PPs show an interest. They wear what they'll wear.
