I think he's stuck because it's a painted she'll help!

One of mine moved into a shell like that 3 days ago and it didn't hide his eyes either. Today he went under the sand and completely buried. I think it means they are getting ready to molt. I read somewhere that it is easier to dig in with a smaller shell.
This is my first hermit crab to molt so it is a guess.

It can't be that he just molted and painted shells are bad for crabs I just bought mine like rhat so if he JUST moved in from an other sell that means you need to take the painted shells of r of your tank and replace them with natural

Huh. We don't have any painted shells in our tank either. I guess I need to find out why mine picked a shell so small. It is a very plain and not even polished shell. I guess I will learn from someone else's opinion on this issue too.

I think they might have meant a shell that fit like that but I am not sure.

But can someone help me? He's in a 10G (I have 14 at my dads in a 55G at my moms 2 in a 10G) with 5" of substrate. He's had one molt that lasted maybe two months.

I had this happen with one of my little guys. He was really really stuck. I put him in the salt water pool for awhile until he came out on his own and when he tried again, after 5 good tries made it out of the shell. I was hoping the salt would leech some of the actual moisture from his abdomen like eating salty foods. I was pretty panicked and my husband was even more panicked but it worked itself out. It's worth a try.
