Yes, that can be a concern with a group of girls. I knew I was forgetting something. I still feel like it's not always impossible to have them in anything larger than a 10.wodesorel wrote:Isn't it like gerbils where given too much space the group splits and can get into territorial fights?

Re: Mice
That does make sense. I had more hammocks and hides than rats I did find females were more likely to be that way with the extra space than males though. The boys loved it. I don't think there's any space requirements set in stone, but definitely a minimum, like with crabbies. The double Critter Nation was big enough to easily home 8-10 depending size, but I never had more than 5 in it

Re: Mice
Hrm never heard of that. Now my boys ugh the fighting so if I had boys in a liter you can bet your but the minute fights started they were removed into their own tats lol. I have only had a couple of groups remain together. One was 2 brothers and the other was a daddy and his 4 sons. Never had a problem with any of them not getting along in those 2 tats but man there is a trouble maker in every liter lol. Now my girls were another story. Never had any issue with them with the exception of just lil pushing arguments when one was on a ramp or in a tube n someone else wanted in or passed lol. Oh I will have to post a pic of the cage I had them in at the time it was really cool. They are on my other computer and that one isn't running atm. It was a big L shape and the front panels came off for easy cleaning. So many levels in that thing and they loved it. I think that was the best tat I have ever had but sadly it broke -.-. After that they had a castle and tho they loved it they missed that huge tat. It was like the grand hotel of tats and even had space on it for towers lol. I have tried to find pics of it online but I bought that thing so long ago that I can not seem to find it anywhere.

Re: Mice
Not as pretty as yours lol but they are still super cute. These are my two girls . The smallest is Sammy cause she is still a baby and the bigger one is Teensy. Her name is Teensy cause she was so much smaller than the others being a runt lol still as an adult she is very small. Compared with Sammy she is a tubby lol. She is a bit pudgy .
Teensy and her pudgy cheeks lol.
Sammy:
Snuggles. They love each other so much:

Re: Mice
I know she is soooo cute lol. She likes to be pet but won't let me hold her much lol and when I do I lightly have to hold her tail cause she loves to jump. Teensy tho I can walk around with her in my pocket and she just happily looks around or falls asleep lol. I did have to rofl laughing last night tho at Sammy. Our cat went up and pressed her face flat against the glass and she stuck her tongue out at her as if to say, "Ha! You can't get me!" . She shook her butt at the cat and continued running in the wheel unfazed . Oh was the cat mad lol. Her tail flicking, her ears were flat down, and all she could do was walk away all ticked off . Was a good 10 minutes before she got over it and crawled up on the baby's lap and took a nap lol. Score another point for Sammy lol.

Re: Mice
Ok so I haven't really had a chance to post this until now but apparently Teensy and Sammy gave me a nice double surprise 2 days ago. So my shocker 1 was Sammy is a boy >< and my lovely 2nd surprise was this:
This is BB she just kinda walked out of the cedar and out of the hut 2 nights ago lol. I have changed their pen, I never heard a pinky, and they never said a word . She just showed up .
So Sammy is now in his own pen all mad lol and Teensy n BB are running happily in their wheels lol.
She don't seem to mind me much but I am sure my scent is in the tat cause I am the one who works with them, changes, feeds, and all that. She is a lil sweetie. I just can't understand how I never knew bout her and she is the only one. Either she never squeaked being an only child or what. Even with them being next to the Hermits bubbler my hearing can usually pick up a pinkie cry a mile away . Sneaky sneaky lil buggers lol.

Re: Mice
Lol yea for now. Until BB is old enough to tell if it is a she/he. I hope it is a girl cause Teensy is so much more happy with company. I am lucky there is only lol. Before BB my smallest litter was a set of twins. It does explain why I hadn't noticed any extra weight gain. Then again she is pudgy anyway lol.

Re: Mice
So sweet ! It took Daryl no time at all to settle in and bond with you, more proof that boys need and love their humans far more than girls do. Makes you wonder about Daryl's life before coming to you...he must have had a positive human experience in his younger days, too.

Re: Mice
I really think he must have! Whoever had him before obviously spent a lot of time with him. He was pretty well behaved from the get go.Crabinski wrote: Makes you wonder about Daryl's life before coming to you...he must have had a positive human experience in his younger days, too.
Re: Mice
Darly is the brindle right? If he is I think it is also a fluffy brindle thing lol. That is the way my Fluffy was lol right in the pet store she came to me while I was holding Ollie (I let him pick his gf's out ) He loved her right away. Anyway, she came right to me kissed me on the cheek and snuggled into my hand next to Ollie. N that was that she came home with us as well as a golden one that was in there with her, lol he liked them both. He reminds me a lot of Fluffy, same temperaments too.

Re: Mice
Sooo. I am now trying to save a baby wild mouse.
My oldest son was helping the IL's yesterday, who are replacing the floor in their feed room. In the process, a nest of baby mice was accidentally crushed, mom too. Two babies survived but one passed quickly due to injuries. The one that I have, seems to be ok. I was worried he had internal injuries but so far he's moving around well and eating some. For anyone interested, I'm going by the info here on how to raise orphaned mice and later, release them.
Luckily, he's (I say he but I don't really know for sure) an older baby - younger ones have less chance of surviving hand raising. The guess is around 2-3 weeks. He'll be in my care probably for 2-3 weeks before release. Hopefully he'll continue to do well. Here's a picture of him next to a quarter for size.
When my son first brought him home, he was very still and calm. I'm guessing in shock and maybe a little dehydrated. With each feeding he's gained more energy and now zips around the enclosure and jumps around at feeding times. He is terrified of me, which I suppose is a good thing. I figured it couldn't hurt to try to help him. The alternative was leave him there and I just couldn't do it. Wish us luck.
