How To Prevent Escape When Using Fish Nets?
To everyone who uses nets in their crabitat, I've got a question for ya! I've seen in some pictures that a few of you have the net draped over the side of the tank, and ending up on the outside, probably where you secure it with whatever (suction cup, etc.) My question is, are the crabs able to climb up this, and possibly lift up the lid and get out, following the net all the way? I was considering doing this as well, but I'm worried that they'll escape. I have just a regular screen lid that sort of overlaps the very top of the tank. Thanks!

If they are using a glass lid, its much heavier than the screen lids, at least mine is. Also, some lids have "locks", small plastic clip-like things that snap onto the top frame to hold the lid secure. This is just my guess, my netting is all contained inside my tank.

I have a hinged screen lid with netting going outside but I have metal lid clips that keep the lid in place so they can't push it open...

What do the clips look like, and where can I get them? I think I have the same lid as you, PSUPrncess, mine also has the hinge.

you should be able to pick up the clips at the pet store in the tank section I've seen them there. also if you only go up half way then they should'nt be able to reach the top but you never know they can be real tricky

Thats what I have right now, the net going up about halfway, but its not against the side, its just sort of going across the tank like its another level. I just wanted to add more climbing space with the net going up and over, but like I said I'm a bit weary of doing that, because yes, as you said, they are very tricky lol.

I have a slide on screen that locks...so that helps with any "would be" escape attempts

Yes, I got my tank clips right where they sell the screen tank lids in Petco... their black metal pieces that clip onto your tank lid and the black plastic edging around the tank... I know I saw them on one of my saved websites.... I'll look for them now and post the site if I find it, just so you have a picture

Here ya go....http://lllreptile.com/store/catalog/rep ... ver/That's what they look like and they're relatively cheap at petco... I LOVE them! They work really well and stay on very tightly so I don't even have to worry about my almost-jumbo-sized Brayden popping the top of this set-up- and they still work with the net hanging over to the outside too - good luck!
