It's probably something to that effect. Either a sectioned off part of the floor like I've seen for some indoor tortoise habitats, or most of a room or garage.

I spoke to her when they first arrived and she was giving them baths due to the mites and said she was having to bathe 150 straws. I can't imagine, my two large straws are like very naughty toddlers, I can't imagine 150!! Or a garage full of them, but somehow I think I would love them all.

sdevine, where in Charlotte, N.C. did you purchase your straws? I'm from the other side of the state, off of 95. About 5 hours away. But my nephew's in-laws are from Charlotte. Did they have any Blueberries too?

Sounds like they expect to resume shipping on the 19th, due to mite prevention. Here's an e-mail I got. Hi ChrisWe have been de-stressing them. We were guaranteed they would be mite free as our last 2 shipments had mites. Unfortunately the Indonesian species do come from the wild with mites and in very large quantities it's much harder to get rid of. They came in with "some" mites but not an infestation. We have been bathing them at a slow pace due to the shipment stress. We are expecting to resume shipping a week from Tuesday. We recommend isolating and rechecking for mites.Thank you,Live Hermit CrabsMan... I ordered the first week of April... this sucks haha

Let us know what condition they arrive in. I was thinking about getting straws from them but I'm really leery. I don't need to introduce mites or sick crabs to the iso tank.

I got violas and ruggies, found one mite on a viola and one on a ruggie. Hard to say how they are as before I could set up a sterile area they buried. Even though I didn't think I had given them enough substrate, they just moved it until they did. So I just dunno.

i got my 2 strawberries yesterday. scarlet and dirk nowitzky. they are super stressed i believe as they remain underground and are relatively motionless above sand. i am allowing them 5 days were i will not mess with them at all. dirk has switched shells, and i have evidence of night time partying. any who i will be posting my entire personal experience with this website soon, including pics. I hope they make it, they really are gorgeous animals. sdevine, what do mites look like? Im not familiar with them. and also, did you get the notice about regular bathing to eliminate mites? i fear that would stress them to the point of death.

Well after 2 days of distressing the crabs are doing well. I have not touched them yet. I've only watched and monitored the environment at a steady 80/80. This morning they were "feeler kissing" haha. I was excited. They seem healthy!
