suction cups and tape

I am at a loss. How on earth am I supposed to stick anything to my tank walls? I want to buy some vines, but I don't know how I'd get them to stay up. I've tried suction cups in the past, and they stayed up for maybe 15 minutes at the longest. I'm scared to use tape because I don't want my crabs getting stuck to it. I tried velcro, but once again, nadda. Actually, even tape wouldn't work. I couldn't get my temp and humidity gauges to stick (removed from my old tank-the stick part was torn off). I ended up using about a pound of tape (exaggeration, but still) to get them to stick and I'm just hoping my crabs don't try to climb them (I doubt they will). My walls are too slippery. How do you get things to stick to the sides in this case? Maybe I'll just have to do without.Also...not related...but I'm nervous about my new crab, Gert. I've had him in ISO since December 26th, about. I was going to move him next week into the main tank. He's just so shy though and I haven't handled him really, so he isn't used to others. He's Rovera's size (micro). Rovera was agressive when I first got her, so I'm afraid she'll pick on him. I know Eegor will, and he's bigger than him. I don't know. I would've moved him in this week, but I just changed tanks and I want my others to get used to it before I introduce another crab to them. Should I wait longer, am I being anxious for nothing? Does anyone else understand why I'm so nerve-wrecked over it? Haha. Anxious mother-syndrome, I suspect.

Suction cups should work ok for you. Just dampen the inside of the cup before you stick it to the side of your tank, and press it as flat as you can. I use suction cups to support a loooong plastic aquarium plant along the back and top of my tank, every now and then one of the crabs will unattach one of them, but that's not a huge deal. At least they can't make off with them. I've seen suction cups that had a sort of protector collar that would keep crabs from peeling them loose, the hook part folds down to press the collar against the glass covering the suction part. I don't know where to find them, though.

Kara, wipe the area with a dry paper towel first. If it's damp or sandy they'll come right down. I use both the double cupped kind that Kittish spoke of and the regular ones and I have to wedge my nails under all of them to pop them off!

Try sticking them to the OUTSIDE of the tank, and using thin string such as fishing line to hook whatever you're hanging up to it, going up and over your tank, and securly tied to the hook of the suction cup. I've never tried this, only because I have no fishing line lol, but I remember reading on here somewhere that someone did that. Suction cups sometimes don't work for me because of the humidity, so I really don't know why I don't just go out and buy the dang fishing line lol. Trying to make your life easier and I realized how easily I could improve mine!

My suction cups eventually fall off I think due to the heat in the tank - the plastic becomes flat and they don't stick. I have been using the 3M hooks that attached with double stick tape - seem to stick forever and my crabs have yet to get stuck or pull them off - even my Straws.

I have found some stick on velcro at the dollar store. I put strips of it everywhere but the battery part of the Temp gauge... this is the only thing that has worked so far. I've even tried the strong double stick tape and it kept falling down... I would go with the Velcro. On the temp gauge ofcourse. Not so sure how you would hang plants and such with it.
