Improving the crabitat

Post by vretallin » Thu Oct 29, 2015 3:03 am

These are the additions I've made so far. The other plants & vines will be here next week. On Friday, my air pump will be here.

It's strange to me, but my three most active crabs pop up at the same time, then proceed to explore their environment as a group. They start at their food & saltwater? Then move to the freshwater and finally they climb and roam. It's at this point where they move about on their own.

I like the mesh bridge idea! Do the crabs use it regularly?

They love the bridge. I found two of them on it this evening.

Thanks. They are super active right now. I can't wait to hook up the air pump. It came today. Super excited.

Thanks. I got the air pump hooked up the other day. The air stone in the fresh water isn't working right, but the salt water is bubbling away happily. The crabs flocked to it. I was amazed by how much they seem to love it.

I also added another caddy with a small plastic flower pot in it. My biggest crab loved that and slept in it overnight.

Things seem to be going well, My, as of yet unnamed, rescue crab molted and grew back the two missing legs. Everyone has tripled in size now. I guess next steps are the vines, another, very large caddy, and hopefully I can get my hands on a 55 gallon.

Very good news about the little rescue guy!

I was amazed at how much my crabs liked the pools once I added bubblers! They are all in the pools everyday now, a couple of them several times a day.

Just as an FYI, the Petco $1-per-gallon sale is on through Saturday, 11/7, but the big sizes (40 and 55g) go very quickly. If you're in a position to spend $55 at the moment, call around to see if any of the stores have one that they can hold for you for the time it would take you to get there.

Unfortunately, I've got a pet smart and I couldn't spend the money until next weekend, but I appreciate you letting me know.

are the painted cholla pieces safe? I've been steering neighbors away from them at work assuming they could have the same issues as painted shells.

I'm wondering if the one in the pictures is a fake resin one? Those would be ok. I used to have one.

I wouldn't use real Cholla that has been painted. It would probably flake and peel off and there would be similar concerns as with painted shells.
