New 40B and the clan is loving it

Post by cRABB3R&w[]FE » Sat Oct 24, 2015 11:35 pm

Took advantage of the dollar per gallon sale and bought a 40B tank, and everything is running beautifully

And here is my current largest crab after his last molt

Claus

After me taking these pictures while on his way up into his tree top perch that he loves to sit on, he ended up losing his grip and doing a double crab-gainer into the salt pool, at first I was not concerned because it is a 2.5 gallon aquarium almost full and he was no more than 6 inches above the water.... But he then decided to just stay in one spot under water right where he had landed and stayed there for about ten minutes, so I decided to check on him and put him on the ramp to the pool, I think he really just wanted to spend an extended amount of time in his pool because he went right back in and spent another hour in his underwater cave that he found.

How long have your guy's crabs spent under water with out resurfacing in-between, this is by far the longest for me, normally all my crabs only go for 10 minute dives give or take a minute or so?

And here is one of my new Ecuadorians

Ghost

Sure hope he makes it with me, he is super active and eats like a complete pig and drinks like a fish, so I think I'm okay but you never know until they molt... And I would like him to dump that shell
Isn't he a pretty white color!

I love it!!! Where did you get the background?? I've been looking for a similar one.

Also your pool is phenomenal. It's my dream to one day have pools like that instead of my Tupperware. ;$

Nice job! I'd love a 40g but will have to live with the 29g as a 30x12 footprint is as large as can be fit into the available space :( .

Claus' underwater adventure is perfectly normal. Like you, I was disturbed the first time one of my PPs, Mr Pinch, settled on the bottom of the pool for a good 30 minutes. I plucked him out, sat him on the substrate, then watched him make an immediate beeline back to the FW pool where he completely submerged for another hour. After that lesson, I no longer worry when one of the guys decides to have a spa session  .
PPs are Big Enzo, Charles Paris and Mr Pinch
On the Big Beach in the Sky: Murray, Gino, Oscar, Gordon, Ignatz, Harry and King Felix the Pale

The tank looks awesome! Your crabs are so cute. The picture of Ghost melted my insides sooo cute.

Thank you, you would not believe how much the crabs are digging it, the tank actually made my crab that I have had tied for longest "Claus" become extremely outgoing and a completely different crab, I use to feel bad because I always felt like he thought he was just waiting to get attacked or sent back to the pet store or something... But not anymore I now see him all day everyday pretty much. And that back ground came from Walmart actually and was cheap only like 7 bucks or so

I know I know, I have heard of crabs spending a couple hours under water, I just was overly worried because he is not one of my normal swimmers, seems he has fallen in love with the new pool tho!

Ghost is quickly becoming one of my favorites, I really wish he would just go down and molt so I could feel more comfortable with my feelings, I know I would be heart broken if anything happens to him, he got named several weeks faster than any of our other crabs and he is becoming best friends with my other favorite Hagrid.

On that note is it weird for E's and PP's to become very attached to each other, I think even more so than his two E buddies?

Got a new big fresh water dish, and some more plants since the crabs like them so much and so do the wife and I, but don't tell the crabs they think it is only for them...

Oh and put in a little perch platform made out of coco Mat and hemp string, I think you can see Hagrid up there in the right hand side of the "left side" of tank picture

New water dish is in the back right of the tank.

What do you think of the changes?

Even nicer than before! Like the idea of the hanging platform but don't be surprised if one of the crabs "snips" through the hemp strings and you find the platform dangling one morning -- I'm always amazed when I see that one of the crabs (Big Enzo) has snipped through the fish netting to make a bigger hole to climb through -- why they like to hang on the back side of the netting is a mystery, though :? .

Oxnard was so happy to see me today he came running up to the glass, but as soon as I took out my phone for pictures he was like,

"Is that thing looking at me...?"
Image
"What do you think pinky? Should I run?
Image
" Run!"
ImageImage
"Still back there?"
Image
"Run some more!"

He loves me but does not like my phone for sure... Thinks it will steal his soul or something...
