This is amazing! Are there directions out there for a kreisel-tank? I have no immediate need-I'm just fascinated with the breeding threads.

There are different ways, which cost money or time and skill.

The tanks I use right now are glass vases. They are nearly round from the front an very small from the top. I only put a air tube in. With an air pump at the end, the bubbles make the water rotate. A very simple system!

For heating the vase can be put into a 'normal' tank. The surrounding water is heated, and so the water inside the vase too.

Bad News: Mini died, because of a parasite.

There is something at its abdomen, that dosn't belong there:

The others are still fine. About 10.000 larvae are still living at day 13 (today). Now most of them are in the Stage Z3 or Z4.

I just have some time to share the last success.
Maybe you read some of it before in the facebook-group, where I posted some information while this forum was down.
For a longer version and pictures of the setpu I made made a side in my hermit-blog.

Summary:
Development of my larvae (trial 10):
Day 1 (06|25|2015): approximate 15.000-20.000 larvae
Day 7: high loses in the clear salt-water, still approximate 15.000 larvae, most of them in stage zoea 2
Day 10: stage zoea 2 and zoea 3, about 12.000 larvae
Day 13: stage zoea 3 and the first zoea 4, about 9.000 larvae
Day 16: first zoea 4, about 8.000 larvae
Day 18: first zoea 5, approximate 7.000 larvae
Day 20: first megalopa – unfortunately dead!
Day 21: counting the larvae of two tanks and estimated those of the other tank: still 5.000 larvae, 5 megalopas moved to the separate reef-tank.
Day 22: 13 more megalopas
Day 23: 21 more megalopas
Day 24: 40 more megalopas
Day 25: 45 more megalopas
Day 26: 63 more megalopas
Day 27: 15 more megalopas (together 202 so far), still 2058 larvae left (counted)
Day 28: Now the new megalopas stay in the Kreisel-tanks. First megalopas are interested in shells/houses.
Day 37: 3 megalopas in houses transferred to a water-land-transition-tank
Day 38: One animal seen on land! 23 more megalopas in houses transferred to the transition-tank. All megalopas from the Kreisel-tanks moved to the reef-tank.
Day 39: 12 more megalopas in houses transferred to the transition-tank.
Day 40: 3 more megalopas in houses transferred to the transition-tank.
Day 41: 8 miniature-crabs, which stayed on land, transferred to a separate small tank. 3 more megalopas in houses transferred to the transition-tank.
Day 42: 12 miniature-crabs, which stayed on land, transferred to the separate small tank. 4 more megalopas in houses transferred to the transition-tank.
Day 43: 3 megalopas more megalopas in houses transferred to the transition-tank.
Day 44: 2 miniature-crabs, which stayed on land, transferred to the separate small tank. 4 more megalopas in houses transferred to the transition-tank.
Day 45: 3 miniature-crabs, which stayed on land, transferred to the separate small tank. 1 more megalopa in a house transferred to the transition-tank.
Day 46: one miniature-crab, which stayed on land, transferred to the separate small tank.
Day 47: 3 more megalopas in houses transferred to the transition-tank.
Day 48: 4miniature-crabs, which stayed on land, transferred to the separate small tank.
Day 50: 2 more megalopas in houses transferred to the transition-tank. 2 miniature-crabs, which stayed on land, transferred to the separate small tank.
Day 52: 1 more megalopa in a house transferred to the transition-tank.
Day 54: 2 miniature-crabs, which stayed on land, transferred to the separate small tank. 1 more megalopa in a house transferred to the transition-tank.
Day 55: 3 miniature-crabs, which stayed on land, transferred to the separate small tank. 1 more megalopa in a house transferred to the transition-tank.
Day 58 (09|21|2015): One last megalopa without a house (!) transferred to the transition-tank.

None of the left megalopa made it one land, but at all together 40 did!!!
From this, I positively still have 24 little living and crawling hermits. That's what I last counted in there little tanks. But maybe there are some more, which are only hiding very well.

They changed houses one to three times and have grown. The houses now have a length about 1-1,5cm (0,4''-0,6'')

I'm still not sure what species they are. At first I thought they could be PPs, but they developed to fast. Could be Indos, too. Time will show.

OMG! so cute! I really want to breed PP's one day and help the pet industry decrease its demand for wild caught crabs (not gonna sell to just anyone though. I think I'll get quite attached to the little fellas.)

It's certain now, they are C. clypeatus (PPs)!

Take a look at this picture, an you will see:
Those little legs, with these black spots can only belong to a PP.

Their eyes are not full developed by now, but nearly those of a PP.
(The size of the grains of sand is about 1mm!)

well .. first of all:

CONGRATULATIONS!!!
the worldwide first successfully captive bred C. clypeatus!
And very adorable ones!

hm in my case: at the moment I am not sure which species the breedings are.
C. violascens for sure. Out of my 16th attempt (3rd successfull breeding).

And it seems like some of them are C. rugosus (Ruggie) ... Or maybe C. purpureus (Blueberry) or if there are C. violascens, too) ...
They have to develop and grow a little more, to tell more about the species - same problem naalide got within this breeding attempt.

On another note have any of you considered turning this into a career? I personally would never buy another wild caught hermit if I could get captive breedings?!

As a career?
The chance to bred them successfully is very rare.
The costs are high.

Nobody would by 60$ for one hermit!
