Gardener's Hermit Crab Food

Post by LadyMorrgian » Thu Nov 19, 2015 9:50 am

So a while back I was in a LFS and they had this little "starter package" with a sponge, a bit of cholla and a care book and this food. I picked it up because it was only a few dollars and I had never run across this brand before.

Before anyone asks, the sponge was repurposed and the food has not been fed to them yet.

The care book was severely outdated, no surprise there.

The food though.... Kind of interesting.

I have this. Came with an adoption and my ingredients are slightly different. Yours sounds just fine! Mine has the questionable "meat" meal and bone meal (which what concerns some is the source). I guess mine is older...I don't see a date on it.

And honestly, if you keep the (natural) sponges clean and don't put them in the water dishes, they do love climbing and nibbling on them. I know it's become this big thing of "absolutely no sponges" and that others will disagree with me.

We actually added that to the okay commercial food list this year. It came up in a topic a few months ago (I think, it may have been longer) and since the ingredients checked out as well as any of the others, it was included.

Well, I am glad some others have some experience with this item.

@wodesorel I just double checked the commercial foods lost and I may be missing it, but I could not find it on the list.

I've fed Gardner's before, the crabs loved it. Can't find it now. Fruit and flower? Wasn't that one of theirs?

Oh, it is? That stuff smelled yummy. Now all I feed are foods online from trusted venders, or fresh, mostly organic. Sometimes some Hikari products.

I have no idea where to source it. I found it at a small mom and pop store and couldn't find anything online about it. Sorry.

Pet Discounters? (Or Pet Mountain - can't recall off the top of my head.) The link from the Commercial Foods Guide goes to a retail store page since it was like the one product I couldn't find a company page for.
