Re: Akiko
It's like having a herd of two year olds who can sort of eat and potty by themselves.

Thankfully my older kitties are not interested in the tree, and haven't been for quite a while (Spiderman is almost 11, not completely sure on Chico). Young kids are just as much of a pain with trees! Thankfully my boys have outgrown it too -- should hope so since they're 16, 14, and almost 10. Hopefully Akiko and Abaddon will out grow it as well.

Re: Akiko
The one who gives us the most trouble is almost 12! (Cat, not kid.) Every year he divebombs into the tree the minute we get it set up and walk out of the room.

Re: Akiko
I thought they were pretty good at feeding themselves until I got the cat who cries around when the food dish is full of the little crumbly bits that are OBVIOUSLY not edible, so the logical solution is to go eat part of a plastic bag and/or a plant and throw up everywhere. And I have a cat who has a huge litter box and still somehow poops over the edge. Oh, pets...
Crabbing since July 2014! 75 gallon with 12 Purple Pinchers.
Re: Akiko
I had a cat who would do that when peeing. No matter how big or how clean the box was. Dora. She wasn't the brightest cat. Spiderman's sister but the only thing they ever had in common was their fur color.megmaholm wrote:And I have a cat who has a huge litter box and still somehow poops over the edge. Oh, pets...

my heart is melting!!
Absolutely ADORABLE!! Makes me want to go adopt the kitten I saw last night. He was beautiful and I almost bought him, but thought my other two would not be very excited about it. Love the name too..

my Christmas tree was basically destroyed this year. He knocked all of the ornaments off and all the braches were bent down where he made his "beds" in the tree limbs.
see here as he eats a light bulb..

Re: Akiko
Thought I'd update here as well, since I posted a small update on my mouse thread.
So, a few weeks ago or so Spiderman and Abaddon apparently got into a bit of a tiff. Or so we think since they both ended up with abcesses - cat bites are nasty things. Abby Caddaby's was on his chest/shoulder area and one round of antibiotics has taken care of it really well. He never acted terribly ill or in pain and now it appears to be all cleared up. That's the good news.
Spiderman is not doing near as well. Her infection is around her ankle area and it's just not getting any better. She's actually a bit worse. If there's no improvement by Friday she goes back in for more xrays and we'll see from there. She is still eating ok, so there's that. Hopefully the antibiotics she's been on will bring about an improvement soon.

Re: Akiko
Ugh.
Mine get testy every spring as well, even though they're fixed. There's still some hormones present and they react to the change of seasons.
Last bad fight was when Bobbi (who has a head injury making him unpredictable and is confined to my husband's room, we took him in after he attacked and sent a tech to the hospital) got out and ran into Ruffy (who is high strung and was also taken in because he has a short fuse and was a danger at the shelter). Bobbi somehow managed to get away without any major injury, but Ruffy kicked so hard he ripped all his back toes out on both sides. There was blood everywhere, and I got to them within 60 seconds of the first caterwaul. Took two rounds of antibiotics to get rid of the infection and several months for him to heal. He's actually yet to really settle back down. That knocked his behavioral therapy back a couple of years. :/
Legs are bad places for them to get infections. The last foster cat we had came with an infection on her leg - that one took cleaning and three rounds of antibiotics. The use the area constantly, the blood vessels and tendons are right at the skin, and the exposure to the litterbox makes it worse. It's not that unusual for it to take a while. Fingers crossed that there's nothing damaged or broken.
How are the two of them getting along? If they fought hard enough to injure each other - which we've only had happen a handful of times over the years (Merlin and Charlie, Champagne and Spot, Little Miss and her brother, there might have been a couple others I can't remember) - you should know by the way they respond to each other. They hold grudges for a long time.

Re: Akiko
I'm glad to hear it sometimes just takes a long time to heal. She starts her 3rd round of antibiotics in a couple days.
Spiderman was quite upset when we got akiko and Abaddon and still doesn't really seem to like them, just tolerates them. She's the same way with Chico. We have her in our room now, away from the others. The few times one has gotten in she's mostly ignored them. I guess we'll see when she's feeling better.

Re: Akiko
She's no better and Abaddon has two swollen paws now. Just noticed them yesterday.
Spiderman has been separated from the others so I don't know who's biting. I haven't heard or witnessed any fights or even rough play. He did manage to get out the door for a short while on Wednesday but I don't think they'd swell up that quickly? There's definitely evidence of a bite on one paw and what looks like a scratch on the other. Ugh.
