20L Setup Critique

Post by Goofball2k16 » Mon Dec 28, 2015 7:42 pm

Hi All,

I recently acquired 4 small PP's. I set up their tank with a budget, and hope it is good enough - the only thing I am aiming to improve asap is the depth of substrate which is eco earth/sand. I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions on other things I could do to improve this tank?

It's hard to see in this pic but the bark on the left makes a cave in the back which is where I believe they mostly dig. I've really only seen 2 active so far and it's been a few weeks, but the 2 are always feeding at night on and off.

Anyways, thanks for looking!

I think it looks great. I don't see a humidity and temp gauge, do you have one yet? I'd be a wreck w/o mine. Kinda a big deal. :)

I think it has everything they need, and it is very creative. Lots of room to decorate in a 20L. For me part of the fun is designing the crabitiat and rearranging it or adding something new, or making something new. So fun. Like a doll house with live dolls that look like spiders.

It's often hard to tell with photos, but make sure there is enough substrate in there for the size crabs you have/will be bringing home. :) Six inches or three to four times deeper than the biggest crab, whichever is more.

I've had trouble with explosive mold growth when putting moss directly onto substrate. You might want to keep an eye on yours and spot clean as needed, or cross your fingers and wait it out. I've got springtails in all of my tanks naturally, and in a few weeks they do the job for me. The hardest part is to wait it out for them to get caught up on it.

Thanks all!

I do have a digital temp/humidity gauge - it's hard to see from this pic, I do apologize for the poor angle.

My substrate is deep enough for my current 4 crabs, but I'd def. like to deepen it.

As far as the moss, I realized/thought about it after I threw it in... So far I haven't had any mold and hope I don't! If I do develop mold, I'll take the moss out and figure something else out. I'd like to get some spring tails - I'm keeping my eyes peeled for some. I was thinking of making a purchase online.

Thanks for the suggestions/comments and let me know if there's anything else anyone sees.

Thank you!
