Our Petco treats their crabs well for a pet store. They have Eco Earth substrate a couple of inches deep (you don't want molting crabs in a petstore), salt and freshwater dishes, coconut flakes, and usually one of the foods with shrimp as an option. Not 100% ideal, but their heat and humidity are always in a good range.

In my area the Hermit Crabs I find on CL seem to be 2+ hours away and I can't afford to travel that fart at the moment unfortunately.
She has been trying to sell this crab for a looooong time. This is the only hermit I have seen on CL in quite some time as well, see a lot of crappy setups though trying to be sold, probably cause the crab in it died. Unfortunately she only has a picture of the crab and not the conditions, it is in a natural shell though so at least thats something.
I know how you feel. I live in a small town so everything I find on CL thats actually nice and reasonably priced, is also 2+ hours away. I would go get this crab but I cant for two reasons 1) I dont have any more space in my tank ATM and 2) It would be a 3 hour drive to pay too much money for a crab I cant fit somewhere. Sad we cant save em all.

Added in the play sand today! The crabbies got mad that I took them out of their tank that they just got used to, but they are going to thank me once they realize how much room they have to dig. Especially Cocona

I have had to do complete tank cleans due to floods in my 125. They end up in a special tub i bought just for it. Sand and everything in it. They get so mad when they get stuck in there. It is usually for about 18 hours because I have to take the sand out, clean the tank in case of bacteria bloom (I hate the smell) put it all back in and them let the tank get to temp and humidity before I let them out of the tub. They are in the tub inside the tank while it warms up but they get MAD. I can't tell you how many times I have taken them out of it to put them back in the big tank and heard chirping. Like "how dare you?! I have been couped up in here for a day and you manhandle me? Woman put me down!" They are always much happier. They get food and everything in the tub. They just hate it.

My sons crabs were also bought from PetCo. Very little sand and sooo many crabs, alive and dead. My question is. The crabs he received have painted shells. Is this a NO NO? very new owner here.

The paint on the shells can chip and be harmful to the crabs should they ingest it. There ready isn't much you can do if they are already in the painted shell. Just offer them natural ones. They usually change. Although I have one crab who I adopted in a painted shell that is way too small for him, and he refuses to change.
