Idk maybe it's just me but from reading the brief description on it it sounds like bull to me....
But like I said we'll wait and see.

DNA testing? :roll:sugarselections wrote:Actually, the owner of ELHC has done DNA testing on some of his crabs.
I have seen a few pics. You are right though - there are some places that sound awesome and are terrible. From what I have seen, I have no reason to suspect this is one of those scenarios. Otherwise I would not have purchased. I have gotten crabs from some places I was disappointed to then have described to me in the past and really do not want to play that game any more. If I can't feel good about where I get them, I don't want them.wodesorel wrote:Out of pure curiosity, I know that many people have spoken to the owner, but has anyone actually seen photos of his place, or even better, been there in person? I worked in cat rescue, and because of it I tend to be very skeptical of people who sound too good to be true. Please don't take it the wrong way - I'm not trying to offend him or anyone who knows him, but I am just curious.
On the outset, it looks similar to cavipes on Tonycoenobita's website:kgbenson wrote: Can't just buy one . . . . has anyone noticed that coenobita are like potato chips . . .

Coenobita brunneus is brown, to brownish green, has very large eyes similar to Purpureus and a left outter leg favors the same.
I am not so sure I agree - the pincers are more symmetrical. I don't think it is a cavipe. But a singe picture makes it difficult to be definitive.MudCrabDude wrote:

A) crabs need groups of conspecifics so it is appropriate to want several of a particular species, this would necessitate buying or adopting them.MacandHunter wrote:I'm kind of disappointed with the response to this. This is why online crab shops rub me the wrong way. How come everyone who posted so far was mostly interested in buying the crab, and saying how much they like to buy crabs?
I don't think no one questions it - I think folks were just having a little fun. A brief exchange on a forum should never be construed as the totality of one's opinion on something as complex a subject as pet ownership, new species, ethics etc. Just because some folks did not question it here, doesn't mean they don't or haven't.I don't know why no one else questions this or the priorities that we have today.
Maybe it's a variant?kgbenson wrote:I am not so sure I agree - the pincers are more symmetrical. I don't think it is a cavipe. But a singe picture makes it difficult to be definitive.

No, because I don't buy a species a hour, day week, or month after I first find out about them. Like I said, I don't feel like we have enough information about this development yet and I don't think it's right to buy buy buy at this time. And I haven't bought any species of crab in years just FYI.but anyone here making accusations along those lines would be pot calling kettle black no?
It's an important event when a new species is found, if this is a new species. I do trust Felix's judgement, but don't know anything about the shop yet. If you don't like this thread, please you do not have to post in it.Methinks some folks took this thread waaaay too seriously.
